Face masks were handed out at the Super Bowl, but few fans wore them – PennLive

Very few fans reportedly wore face masks at the Super Bowl LVI. Though, face coverings were provided.

While KN95 masks were provided to everyone at the mega event, many celebrities and fans alike in the crowd went maskless.

The Super Bowl took place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and in Los Angeles County face coverings are required in a ‘mega-event.” In the county, individuals aged 2 and up must wear a face mask at the stadium unless they are eating or drinking.

Individuals aged 5 and up also must provide proof of vaccination, a negative antigen test within 24 hours, or a negative PCR test within 48 hours in order to enter the stadium.

As Omicron cases begin to decrease, California plans to drop its mask mandate for vaccinated people too, Fox 2 Now reports. Though health officials from each region may decide what’s best for their area.

Though, Los Angeles County will continue to wait for a higher drop in cases before lifting the mask mandate. According to L.A. County public health officials on Sunday, there are 4,900 new cases, more than 2,000 people are hospitalized, and 58 deaths.

Following the “mega-event” and many fans not wearing masks at the Super Bowl, health officials will monitor if COVID-19 surges again in the LA area.
